Patents

Patents have been a useful tool for me in my research not only for their factual value but also their insight into the minds of men who came before me.

Such as the “Electromagnetically operated door opener” of my Great-Great Grandfather John M. G. Gould
A new kind of "Automobile lamp" from John's brother Aaron H. Gould and Aaron's son Nathaniel O. Gould

And Nathaniel's own "Reserve liquid fuel controlling  device"

How about you? Have you ever found a relative's patent?

Evelyn E. Gould

My great Grandmother Evelyn Erma Gould was born April 16 1906 to John M. G. Gould and his wife Lillian Gertrude McEwen. She was the fourth of at least nine children born to her parents. In 1906 they lived at 15 Bruce St. in the Dorchester section of Boston. Her Father was an electrician who was in business with her Uncle Joseph Herbert Gould who with his family also lived at 15 Bruce St. Her cousin Earl Vernon Gould was born to her Aunt Amanda (Mitton) and Uncle Joseph shortly before her on March 20th of the same year. Sadly by September 22nd her cousin who ought to have been her first playmate died of a heart defect.

In April of 1907 she became a big sister to Georgianna Gould and then on May 31st 1908 to Sarah Marjorie Gould. Unfortunately the family suffered the loss of Georgianna on June 16th of 1908. Death struck again some years later when Evelyn’s second oldest sister Violet Gould died sometime after 1910.

Evelyn’s family gradually moved west out of the city to Framingham, then Ashland, and finally settling in Hopkinton, Massachusetts where she married her husband Roland Adelbert Temple on June 14th 1930

Evelyn was a capable woman who worked on her husband’s sawmill and knew how to drive a car which was rather uncommon for a women of her era. She had beautiful gardens that won her numerous awards in her garden club. She would sometimes sing as Roland played the piano. Her toes curled upward so she often wore open toed shoe, a trait I inherited from her.

She bore four wonderful children, two of each gender. She lost her son Robert Earl on May 15th 1936, a few weeks before he would have turned three. She was a woman with a lot of faith, most of her family were early International Bible Students which later became called Jehovah’s Witnesses. She loved all of her grandchildren and has always been a treasured memory to my own mother who still speaks about her, which is where my own path to genealogy started and brought me to a hobby I love.

An Introduction

They best way to start would be to introduce myself. My name is Loreena, I am a typical 'New England mutt" with strong interest in genealogy. My other interests include studying the Bible and teaching others about it, my pets which range from typical to frightful, and enjoying the beautiful outdoors of New England.

I'd like to use this blog to reach cousins and other researchers. For the past few years I've been researching the Gould side of my tree that will be the main focus of this blog although I may include other Characters I discover along the way.

I hope you enjoy reading!
